How our volunteer counsellors feel about their work with Gateway Trust Counselling

After retiring from a long career in counselling, I volunteered during lockdown when I realised how many people were really struggling with the isolation and their mental health. It is a lovely group to work with.

I volunteer for Gateway Trust Counselling as a counselling student on placement. From the first experience of the interview, I felt welcomed and at home. All the staff are warm and friendly. I have been encouraged and my confidence is growing as a result of this.

As a counsellor here at Gateway Trust Counselling, I wanted to volunteer as it really is a caring, supportive environment. The service really wants to help the local communities especially when they need that safe space to talk to someone without judgement. The passion of our ethos is infectious.

I volunteer at Gateway Trust as I wanted to give something back to the community, I live in. When I was training as a counsellor, I noticed that most counselling charities are based in cities and large towns, which seemed unfair to people struggling in rural areas. I enjoy helping people to find their own solutions to their problems, within the supportive environment that Gateway Trust Counselling provides for clients and counsellors.

As a volunteer student counsellor, working at Gateway Trust Counselling, I feel very supported by my manager and all the staff, who are friendly and approachable. I am proud of being a part of this counselling agency, which allows people to access professional counselling, regardless of their financial status.
